Originally built in May 1969 as a DC-8-62 for Alitalia, this 49 year old girl still soldiers on as a part of NASA's Erth Sciences fleet. Converted to a DC-8-72 in 1986 with the addition of four CFM-56 turbofans in place of the original four JT3D turbofans, this bird is expected to fly for several more years to come.
