NASA 844

SR-71 61-7980 was the last Blackbird to roll off the Lockheed assembly line and was delivered to the USAF in 1967. Delivered to NASA for use as a high speed test aircraft, it has the distinction of being the last SR-71 to fly, performing it's last flight on October 9th, 1999. Among it's NASA missions, it flew the Linear Aerospike SR Expirement, or LASRE, to test the engine for the X-33 program.

The aircraft is now retired to a place of honor outsie the NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center main headquarters building.
